Ogden Valley roads today.
Two roads go into Ogden Valley, SR-39 up Ogden Canyon and SR-167 over Trappers Loop, and two more climb out of it to the resorts, SR-158 to Powder Mountain and SR-226 to Snowbasin. UDOT keeps a camera on each, and this page links every one, with the standing restrictions and the avalanche forecast for the Ogden zone beside them. The cameras are live; the rest is checked on the date above.

How to read this page
The panels in the rail are the live part. Each camera link opens UDOT's current still for that spot: Ogden Canyon at milepost 13.24 and at the SR-158 junction, the Trappers Loop junctions at SR-39 and at the Snowbasin road, the Powder Mountain road at milepost 8.33 and at the top, the Snowbasin road at milepost 0.7, and Monte Cristo at mileposts 36.84 and 46.2. Look at the road surface and the sky in the picture, not the timestamp, and if a picture is black it's night or the camera is down.
UDOT's road conditions and events feed needs a developer key, so this page doesn't show a plow status or an incident list yet. When it does, it will say so here.
The standing rules
- Vehicles longer than 50 feet are not permitted in Ogden Canyon between the canyon mouth and Pineview Dam. Long rigs go around by I-84 and SR-167.
- SR-158, the Powder Mountain road, has seven slide paths and closes temporarily for avalanche mitigation. A closure is a wait at the bottom.
- SR-39 over Monte Cristo closes each winter between milepost 37 and milepost 56, typically late November through May.
- The traction law, when UDOT calls it: M+S tires on all wheels for all-wheel and four-wheel drive, three-peak snowflake tires or chains on the drive wheels for two-wheel drive.
This season
Ogden City's pipeline work moves into Ogden Canyon this fall: the phases for the upper canyon and lower Hermitage are listed for October 2026 to April 2027, with the reservoir crossing running from September 14 to February 2027. Read the city's project page for what each phase means for the road. The Utah Avalanche Center issues its Ogden forecast through the winter, mornings; the rail links today's.
What this does to your vehicle.
A winter of these roads is brine on the lower panels, cinders and gravel from the canyon's shoulders in the wheel wells, and a windshield chipped by the truck ahead. Rinse the underbody after each storm cycle, and get the chips filled before the cold spreads them.
