Up in Pleasant View, the detail is done in your driveway, Elberta Drive to Pole Patch.

Pleasant View is the north end of Weber County, 6.7 square miles at the base of Ben Lomond, mostly houses with some farmland still worked between them and two canals running through. Highway 89, SR-134 and I-15 are UDOT's roads here; the neighborhood streets off Elberta Drive and Pole Patch Drive are the city's to plow. The Bonneville Shoreline Trail's Ogden region starts in town, under the power lines. Wherever in the city your car, truck or SUV spends the day, a Fresh Tracks professional comes to it and details it there.

Settled

Pleasant View got its name from Wilford Cragun, the first pioneer child born in the settlement, and the Pole Patch, the pioneers' name for the straight timber at the foot of Ben Lomond, survives as a street name.

Salt from two directions, dust from the west, and five miles of trail dirt.

UDOT brines the highways, the city salts its own streets, the trail under the power lines is five miles of dirt, and the lake blows in each spring.

  • Winter

Brine on Highway 89, SR-134 and I-15 before a storm and salt during it, because UDOT pre-treats and plows the state routes, while the city's own salt pile goes down on the neighborhood streets. A winter walk from the Divide's dirt trailhead roads adds packed snow, thaw mud and gravel, and a ski day through Ogden Canyon adds cinders from the canyon shoulders.

  • Spring

Great Salt Lake dust on a windy day, because the valley floor Pleasant View sits on is directly exposed to dust off the dry lakebed. After rain, the Shoreline Trail lots under the power lines turn to mud that packs into the wheel wells.

  • Summer

A fine tan film on the lower body from the bench trailheads and the five miles of dirt on the Pleasant View section of the Shoreline Trail, farm dust from the fields still inside the city, grass and sap after 18 holes at The Barn, and Willard Bay beach sand off a wet dog.

  • Fall

The first avalanche closures and plowing on the North Ogden Divide, a road the county shut about twice the winter before, and UDOT's brine already down on Highway 89 and SR-134 ahead of the season's first storm.
